Fast-food giant Wendy’s is entering the world of RPGs with WendyQuest: Legend of the Four Corner Stones, a free-to-play adventure that’s out on Steam now. Developed by Canadian indie studio 81monkeys, the game combines classic JRPG mechanics, colorful pixel art, and plenty of fast-food humor into an unexpectedly ambitious promotional title.
The project comes from 81monkeys, the independent developer also behind the ambitious open-world RPG World of Anterra. The studio has emphasized the game’s handcrafted presentation, particularly its retro pixel art. Perhaps most notably, the Steam description proudly declares that WendyQuest is “100% fresh and 100% human made,” emphasizing its commitment to human-created content rather than generative AI.
This isn’t Wendy’s first venture into role-playing games, either. In 2019, the company released Feast of Legends, a free tabletop RPG that similarly transformed its menu and branding into a fantasy adventure.
In WendyQuest players take control of Wendy herself, reimagined as a fantasy heroine tasked with saving the culinary kingdom of Savoria. The villainous Dr. Mechborg and his mechanical army have unleashed a curse known as Mechtosis, spreading frozen beef, soggy fries, and other culinary disasters across the land. To save the kingdom, Wendy must gather four magical stones while battling enemies and exploring five food-themed regions.
This game offers a quirky adventure for fans of classic JRPGs, combining nostalgic visuals, traditional RPG mechanics, and plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor.
WendyQuest: Legend of the Four Corner Stones is listed now as free-to-play on Steam.
