Today at the Triple-i Initiative showcase, Square Enix and BetaDwarf revealed a new trailer for VAULTBREAKERS, a top-down action RPG that offers solo play as well as PvP and PvE modes. A free demo is also available now on Steam.
The demo drops players into VAULTBREAKER’s first map and gives you control of one of two characters: Nymera the elf ranger, and Bjornir the warrior. Vaultbreakers are champions who must retrieve artifacts from various vaults that have fallen from a floating island in the sky called the Dragonvault. These artifacts (or ARTEFACTS, to be particular) are the only way for anyone to reach Dragonvault itself. The demo leads players through the first Vault and ends with an epic boss fight. The devs claim the demo offers up to seven hours of gameplay, and it is fully playable with up to two other players.
BetaDwarf has teamed up with Square Enix to release the game. If you’ve followed Square Enix’s forays into the indie publishing scene in the past, you might recall the Square Enix Collective, their boutique brand that supported indie developers through investment, funding, and publishing assistance. With VAULTBREAKERS, the Square Enix Collective has officially returned, and they are open to new project proposals for games of all genres and from teams of any size.
