Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven Hits One Million Units Shipped and Digitally Sold Worldwide

The coronation of a new emperor

The SaGa series has always felt like a sort of also-ran for Square Enix. It’s a series that experiments greatly with gameplay mechanics, many of which might seem esoteric to more casual JRPG players. Despite the fervor that its fans have for the series, it has rarely broken out into the mainstream.

That appears to have changed with the series’s latest release, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, which has broken the one million-sold and shipped barrier, the first game in the series to do so since SaGa Frontier back on the PlayStation 1, nearly 30 years ago.

To celebrate the achievement, Square Enix shared a new piece of art from the game’s illustrator, Yoshiro Ambe. Take a look below.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven tells the story of the battle between the Varennes Empire and the Seven Heroes, the latter of which were once the party who went out and saved the world, but who have now returned to wreak havoc. You play a generational tale of the leaders of the Empire as they and their ancestors strive to fight back against the twisted heroes.
