I feel like we’re always holding our breath for whatever Nintendo decides to launch next for the Nintendo Online Service. Granted, lately we’ve been holding our breath a bit longer than usual due to the slow trickle of games. But last night, we got a surprise announcement for the Game Boy Advance!
Included in this launch are:
Monster Rancher Advanced

Monster Rancher Advanced is a monster-raising RPG for the GBA. I remember that in the PlayStation version, you could put in any random PS1 disc and get a monster to train. Instead, in this game, you can use any 4-letter word to summon a monster. I’m sure we can all be adults when we try this out…probably not, though. After you summon a monster, you spend the rest of your time training it, raising its stats, and competing in tournaments. I never played this version growing up, so I’m definitely excited to try it!
Metal Slug Advanced

Metal Slug Advanced is a run-and-gun action game for the GBA. I never actually played this one, but I was a huge fan of playing them across the home consoles over the years. This game brings you the chaotic arcade gameplay it’s known for, but also adds a health bar and collectible cards that unlock bonuses. Who doesn’t love collecting cards?! This is definitely a fun one to jump into when you have some extra time between JRPGs.
Kururin Paradise

Speaking of games that fit perfectly between big JRPG releases… we’ve got Kururin Paradise! This GBA puzzle-action game has you controlling a constantly rotating stick called a Helirin as you navigate increasingly challenging mazes without hitting any walls. This game ONLY came out in Japan, so I’m happy we can finally play it in the West. I’ve never played this game before, but I’ve heard great things. I’m looking forward to trying this one out!
