Final Fantasy Series Lead Says After Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Square Enix Is Likely to Focus on New Titles Rather Than Remakes

In an interview with IGN, Final Fantasy series producer Yoshinori Kitase said that in a post-Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy world, the company is more likely to invest in new titles rather than remakes. This comes after more than seven years of work on the reimagining of the Final Fantasy VII story.

However, he doesn’t close the door on the possibility of more remakes in the future.

“[We] really wanted to create something new related to the old game to allow new users to play and to know the appeal of this game as much as the old users who play the old game. So there might be different cases like this one where the company is willing to invest in remaking old projects and other kinds of games like it happened this time,” Kitase said.

He also expressed interest in having TV series that focused on the worlds of Final Fantasy. Whether that means an anime or a live action series (a la Persona) remains to be seen, but there do seem to be a lot of possibilities for both Final Fantasy VII and other entries to expand their stories in other media.
