JRPGs Coming in October 2026: New Releases, Ports, & Games to Watch

After the onslaught of JRPGs that arrived last month, October 2026 may be a little quieter by comparison. That said, there are still plenty of new releases, remasters, ports, and RPG-adjacent games worth keeping an eye on.

Here are the games we think should be on your radar this month.

New JRPGs

Tales of Eternia Remastered

Originally released in 2000, Tales of Eternia returns with updated visuals, quality-of-life improvements, and its signature real-time 2D combat. Players follow Reid and his companions as they journey between the worlds of Inferia and Celestia to prevent a catastrophic collision.

This remaster is a great way for JRPG fans to experience one of the most beloved Tales games on modern systems, whether you're playing it for the first time or coming back to see what's changed.

Final Fantasy Resonance

Originally based on the mobile RPG Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Final Fantasy Resonance reimagines the experience as a standalone single-player adventure. Presented in HD-2D, it combines classic turn-based command battles with an expanded job system, summons, and appearances from heroes across the Final Fantasy series.

Resonance is a great fit for JRPG fans who want something new but still miss the classic Final Fantasy formula of turn-based combat, party building, and character customization.

A demo is available with save carry-over.

Demons' Night Fever

A darkly comedic tactical RPG from Disgaea creator Sohei Niikawa and the team behind Etrian Odyssey's character designs. Demon's Night Fever uses grid-based, turn-based combat with a bizarre system that lets players sacrifice their own allies to strengthen their army.

JRPG fans who love deep character building, strategic battles, and over-the-top anime dialogue and stories should have a lot of fun with this new release.

Village in the Shade

A cozy farming and life-sim RPG with a darker mystery beneath its charming exterior. Set in the secluded Japanese mountain village of Kagatsu, players can grow crops, customize their home, build relationships with villagers, and uncover the secrets behind the community's strange rules.

If you're looking for a slower paced adventure with RPG mechanics and some darker themes, Village in the Shade is worth checking out. And if ghosts and spooky stuff aren't really your thing, Sunshine Mode lets you enjoy the adventure without all the scares.

Note: The game released in Japan and some other regions earlier in 2026, we are listing October 27th as the European & North American release date.

More RPGs to Watch

Aion 2

Aion 2 returns to the fantasy world of Atreia with a massive world built around exploration, character progression, and online combat. Players can freely take to the skies, explore a world significantly larger than the original Aion, choose from multiple classes, tackle a wide variety of dungeons, and participate in the ongoing conflict between the Elyos and Asmodians.

If you're a JRPG fan looking for a new multiplayer fantasy adventure, Aion 2 may be worth keeping an eye on.

Valor Mortis

From the team behind Ghostrunner, Valor Mortis puts a first-person spin on the Soulslike formula in an alternate-history version of 19th-century Europe. You play as William, a fallen soldier who awakens to find Napoleon's war transformed by a horrifying plague and its otherworldly consequences. Combat combines precise parries and evasive movement with swords, firearms, and supernatural abilities. As he explores war-torn Europe, William will uncover hidden secrets and piece together the mystery behind his resurrection.

If you're a JRPG fan looking for a good challenge, this new Soulslike may be worth checking out for its unique setting and supernatural elements.

The Witch's Bakery

A cozy life sim RPG that combines running a magical bakery with exploration, relationship building, and character-driven storytelling. Players can bake, explore the streets of Paris, meet its residents, and enter magical “Heart Palaces” to uncover their personal struggles

The Witch's Bakery may be a great pick for JRPG fans who enjoy memorable characters, emotional stories, and a more laid back, story-focused experience.

Stupid Never Dies

Fast-paced 3D action RPG starring a timid zombie who ventures into a monster-filled dungeon to revive the human woman he loves. Players can devour enemies to steal their abilities, transform into different monster styles, and customize his body with bizarre upgrades as he grows stronger.

Stupid Never Dies may be interesting for any JRPG fans looking for an offbeat RPG with a strong sense of personality.

A demo is available with save carry-over.

Emberville

This dark fantasy action RPG takes players into the Vitromotus, a massive underground prison filled with dangerous creatures and strange biomes. Rescue survivors, rebuild the ruined town of Emberville, customize your character, and uncover the truth behind the mysterious world.

Emberville could be a fun pick for JRPG fans looking for a Stardew Valley-style experience but with more Diablo-like action combat and deeper RPG systems.

A demo will be available during Steam Next Fest, on October 19, 2026. Save carry-over into Early Access has not been confirmed.

Phantom Blade Zero

A stylish action RPG inspired by Chinese wuxia, Phantom Blade Zero combines fast-paced martial arts combat with a dark story of revenge and betrayal. Players take on the role of Soul, a swordsman with only 66 days to live as he uncovers a conspiracy threatening the martial world.

This highly anticipated action RPG is one to keep an eye on, especially for JRPG fans who enjoy story-focused adventures and deep action combat.

Queen's Domain

A retro-fantasy action RPG inspired by classic games like King's Field. After washing ashore on the mysterious Isle of Neasied, players set out to find their missing father while uncovering the island's dark secrets.

Queen's Domain may be perfect for any JRPG who want to try something with a more old-school Western approach to RPGs.

A demo is available but no carry-over save.

JRPG-Adjacent Games Fans May Also Like

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve

The latest entry in Bandai Namco's long-running aerial combat series combines intense dogfights and large-scale missions with a cinematic, character-driven story. Players take on the role of a pilot fighting to reclaim a homeland alongside a memorable squad of comrades.

Ace Combat 8 could be right up the alley of JRPG fans who love story-driven adventures and strong party dynamics, just with fighter jets instead of swords and magic.

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse follows Rose Belmont as she battles supernatural threats across 15th-century Paris. Combining classic 2D action with exploration, platforming, and RPG-style progression, the game features new abilities, equipment, and challenging enemies to overcome.

Fans of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night who enjoyed its RPG elements may want to keep an eye on this one, especially for its gothic atmosphere, exploration, and character progression.

A demo is available to play the early hours of the game with save carry-over.

One Piece Grand Gourmet

Join the Straw Hat Crew aboard the Baratie Number Two, a floating restaurant where you'll gather ingredients, create recipes, serve more than 400 familiar One Piece characters, and customize your restaurant with more than 200 decorative items. Grand Gourmet brings the popular anime into a cozy restaurant-management game with charming pixel-art presentation.

While it's not an RPG, Grand Gourmet could be a nice change of pace for JRPG fans who already love One Piece and want a more relaxed way to interact with its characters and world.

ANOMALITH

A surreal survival action adventure set in a mysterious version of Japan where strange anomaly zones have suddenly appeared. Players take on the role of Reona Minazuki, a young woman searching for her missing friend while battling supernatural enemies with firearms and strange powers.

ANOMALITH may be worth checking out for JRPG fans who enjoy anime-inspired games that take things in a darker and more unusual direction.

Demo is available on Steam, no save carry-over.

Steins;Gate RE:BOOT

A reboot of the acclaimed time-traveling visual novel, Steins;Gate RE:BOOT follows Rintaro Okabe and his eccentric group of friends as an accidental invention allows them to send messages into the past. The remake features completely redrawn artwork, new voice acting, a remastered soundtrack, improved dialogue, and new story content, including a brand-new Gamma Worldline and ending scenario.

JRPG fans who love character-driven stories, anime-inspired worlds, and mysteries that span multiple timelines should definitely have this one on their radar.

The Wolf Among Us Remastered

A remastered version of Telltale's acclaimed narrative adventure set in the Fables universe, following Bigby Wolf as he investigates a murder in a hidden community of fairy-tale characters.  Your choices shape relationships and influence how the story unfolds, while the noir-inspired setting delivers a darker take on familiar fairy tales.

Fans of story-heavy JRPGs with memorable characters, meaningful choices, and plenty of relationship-building may want to give this one a look.

New Upgrades, Ports, & Collections

Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

This beloved Switch JRPG gets a substantial Switch 2 upgrade, giving players another chance to experience Rex and Pyra's epic journey across the Cloud Sea. The Switch 2 Edition runs at up to 4K in TV mode and 1080p in handheld mode at 60fps, with smoother cutscenes and several new additions, including a new Rare Blade named MOMO, a new Merc Assault battle mode, and additional outfits for Pyra and Mythra.

Players who already own Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on Switch can purchase the upgrade pack separately rather than buying the game again.

Octopath Traveler & Octopath Traveler II

Two acclaimed HD-2D JRPGs arrive on Switch 2 with dedicated new versions of both Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II. Both games retain their distinctive blend of pixel art and 3D environments, eight playable protagonists, and strategic turn-based combat, while the Switch 2 editions bring the adventures to Nintendo's newer hardware.

The games are sold separately or together in a bundle, but it's important to note that there is no upgrade path from the original Switch versions, and save data cannot be transferred.

Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III]

A new collection bringing Sora's journey from the original Kingdom Hearts through Kingdom Hearts III to Nintendo Switch 2. The bundle includes Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind, covering the series' major story chapters along with several additional games and cinematic compilations.

The Switch 2 and PS5 versions offer native versions of the games rather than the previous Cloud or PS4 releases, and owners of the Cloud versions or digital PS4 versions of 1.5+2.5 ReMIX or KH III + Re Mind can upgrade at a 50% discount and transfer their save data.

A free Kingdom Hearts III demo is also available, with save data carrying over to the full game.

Mamon King

A monster-raising game inspired by classics like Monster Rancher, Mamon King puts players in charge of raising and training creatures called Mamons. There are 38 unique monsters, more than 170 skills, weekly training decisions, tournaments, expeditions, and 1-on-1 turn-based battles. Raise a Mamon capable of becoming the strongest in the world!

The Switch 2 version also features a revamped save-data system. But note that save data from the original Switch version cannot be transferred.

The Relic: First Guardian

A dark fantasy action RPG inspired by Korean folklore with Soulslike combat. Players take on the role of the last Guardian of Arsiltus, exploring a shattered world to recover fragments of a powerful relic and stop the encroaching Void. There is no traditional leveling system, and players must shape their build through weapons, skills, and more than 70 Relics, while battling dozens of bosses with their own stories.

This Soulslike RPG could be a great way for JPRG fans to try something a little different, offering a tougher adventure inspired by Korean folklore that you don't often see in JRPGs.

Dragon's Dogma II: Dark Arisen

An expanded version of Dragon's Dogma II that adds a new adventure to Capcom's open-world action RPG. Dark Arisen introduces the volcanic Isle of Ashes, a new storyline, additional quests, enemies, equipment, and the new Night Herald vocation. The expansion also adds new character customization options, quality-of-life improvements, and an expanded photo mode.

Dragon's Dogma II: Dark Arisen leans more towards a Western RPG style, but it's huge fantasy world and party-based combat could still make it a great choice for JRPG fans.
